The exhibition ’Squint’ draws its name from the straining movement of the eyes in which they narrow to give the viewer a sharper, more certain idea of what lies before them. Painter Dmitri Zudov and photographer Jason DeBose have invited this reaction to their work on a regular basis in recent years in Finnish exhibitions as viewers have inquired especially from a distance (and even close up) if Zudov’s work is indeed the product of a photograph and similarly if DeBose’s is truly a painting. KekeTop hits in Ars Fennica 2010 Candidates Exhibition in Kiasma. Lets see but giggle any way. The winner of the most prestigious art prize in Finland will be announced on 25 November. The 2010 Ars Fennica candidates are the painter Markus Konttinen, the sculptor Anne Koskinen, the photographic artist Jorma Puranen and the visual artists Jaakko Niemelä and Charles Sandison. The joint exhibition of the five candidates will be on show on the fourth floor of Kiasma until 12 December. The winner will be chosen by the British curator and international art expert, David Elliott. The audience will also have an opportunity to vote for its favourite artist. The winner of the audience vote will also be announced on 25 November 2010.
